Wanna see a pygmy seahorse? – Kerama Islands Diving

Here is another picture of the longnose pygmy seahorse from Turtle Reef.
Hope it stays for a long time.

The great thing about diving with Bluefield is that we can find both big creatures like Turtles, Sharks, and also macro creatures on the same dive. And we know where they are!

Airplane Wreck – Dragon Lady in Kerama Islands

Hi everyone, today I would like to introduce a dive spot called ‘Dragon Lady’ in the Kerama Islands.

Dragon Lady is a dive site on Toma Bay at Zamami Island – which we often visit when we have North wind.
Mostly beautiful white sandy bottoms with some coral head here and there.

The highlight of this dive site is an old airplane wreck from 1980’s.

There is a Japanese movie shot using this Toma Bay during 1980, and in it, they sank a DC-3 at around 10m deep.
Spending the 30 years, gradually it moved…  Now, you can find the wing at around 22m and the body at around 29m.
It’s a bit deep and far from the buoy, so we will need to assess if you are capable doing this dive. Advanced Open Water Certification and/or Deep Dive Specialty is required.

Besides the airplane wreck, we have various sea creatures, especially lots of cleaner shrimps.
There is a coral head around 8m deep, where we always find many cleaner shrimps, glassy sweepers, and coral groupers trying to eat small fish.

Underwater Ruin & some stuff from WWII – Okinawa West Coast Dives

Hi it’s Miho Here.

Today, I enjoyed diving with John, with the dive sites around two different areas.
Due to the strong wind from East, we couldn’t make it to the Keramas, but we enjoyed various sea creatures in Onna area and Sunabe area.

2. Chatan Ruin (Sunabe)
3. Runway #0 (Sunabe)

Visibility: 20m + (70ft)
Suits: 3mm / 5mm one piece

Chatan & Kadena area is the place where US forces landed during the WWII. They at first landed on Kerama Islands, then, landed on Okinawa Main Island from here. Therefore, we still find many stuff from the war, for example, unexploded bombs, sea mines, and bullets. Even sometimes coca cola bottles with 1945 marked.

The above picture on the left is a box full of bullets. Probably, the box was made of wood, and got rotten in this 65 years, thus leaving only bullets all standing here. Also, there are still many bigger bombs, which we should be careful not touching it!

Also, we explored the area of Chatan Ruin, which Professor Kimura from Ryukyu University is doing research.
Noboru dove with Graham Hancock when he came visit this Chatan Ruin a while ago.

Pygmy Seahorse in Zampa Diving – Okinawa West Coast

Akira got a nice shot of a Pygmy Seahorse, diving our favorite Zampa area.
Zampa area has huge stunning drop offs and caves – the seascapes creates mild currents, which develop many sea fans and good environment for having some pygmy seahorses.

The average depth diving here tends to be deep – Nitrox tanks come in handy, especially for cave lovers and photographers.

Blue Cave & Turtles in the Kerama Islands – Okinawa Diving

Hi everyone,

Today, we had very good dives at north dive spots in Kerama Islands. While ‘Maeda Blue Cave’ is getting popular and famous even outside Japan, I like this cave in Chishi – where we can observe many sea creatures.

Above picture is a goby called ‘Blueband Goby’. They are always in a pair, and eat small planktons from sand. They put some sand in their mouth, take what they want from it, and throw out the rest of the sand from their gills. When one of them eating, one of them looks out for danger, and they take turn. It’s so funny to observe them.

Not only just showing sea creatures, diving with Bluefield, we introduce the sea animals’ behavior, characters, and how to observe. This will be done during the dive briefing and in the water, using

Today, we took our new boat, B-FLAP out.
You can see our main cruiser getting to the dive spot – this picture was taken at Zamami Island.
We had guys from Korea, a Japanese family, and a couple from Switzerland.

Zampa Caves have lots to see! – Okinawa Diving

We headed out to Zampa area on Okinawa West Coast to explore the dive sites intensively.
Found more and more caves that you would love!

Zampa is a cave lover’s paradise! (Check out our Dive Spot Map)
*Zampa Light House
*Bolo Point
*Mishiragi

Also, there’s an area with Jawfish living over there… as well as some micro creatures.
Here’s a picture of a crab with a sea skirt on itself. It’s called ‘Yukinko Boshi Gani’ in Japanese, literally translates to ‘Snowman Hat Crab’. You know, the way the crab has the sea skirt looks like wearing a ski cap, getting ready for snowing mountain…
Since it’s extremely hard to find one, if you would like to definitely see it,  you should ask for Akira, and get ready to shoot with a macro lense!

Also, diving Zampa area, with the average depth of your dives being deep (over 10-15 average, with the max depth probably 25-30m), you should use Enriched Air Nitrox to extend your No-Decompression Limit in the water.

We are the only English speaking dive shop which offers Nitrox tanks legally in Okinawa, Japan.
Be wise, have safe, happy dives!!

Blue Cave Dives & Diving with Whale Sharks! – Okinawa

Hi, we had our favorite dives today around Okinawa West Coast.

***Today’s Okinawa Diving Information**
Okinawa West Coast & Whale Shark Dive

2. Yamada Point (Onna)
3. Whale Shark Dive (Yomitan)

(See the Okinawa West Coast Map)

Water: 29C (85F)
Visibility: 20m+ (70ft.)

Here are some good and funny pictures…

This is a one that Akira took – the whale shark came so close to him all of a sudden, he got his fingers accidentally!
The one on the right is  at Yamada. He is my favorite frogfish these days. You can go so close to him, so close that you can even observe his ‘esca (lure)’.

Here is my favorite nudibranch – looking like Pikachu from Pokemon!
This is my son’s favorite too!

You can find 4-5 of them on the net at Yamada Point now. It’s the season!
