Diving with Enriched Air (Nitrox) in the Kerama Islands

Hello everyone,

It was Matt’s 3rd day of diving in Okinawa and Keramra Islands.

Today, we used all three dives Enriched Air Nitrox (32%).
It was good idea- we were able to concentrate taking pictures on a little deeper end, and there were so many to shoot!
We saw sea turtles on each of our dives as well as some interesting creatures…

Diving the west coast of Okinawa Island – Okinawa Diving

Hello there,

We had great diving today as well, at Okinawa West Coast.
I had Matt from Stanford University and Mr Mizuno from Japan diving with me. We had great Macro dives at various dive sites.
Everybody is enjoying their 2 days/ 3 days diving in Okinawa.

Many nudibranches, various kinds of coral, and many anemonefish laying eggs.

At the end of the dives today, Naoki found a big Giant Frogfish sitting among the coral reef at Marina 225.
That was a great find, and even by the frogfish, we found a rare kind of nudibranch sitting. That was very funny.

It’s too bad that my camera started fogging during the third dive of the day :P

Some pictures from “Golden Week” – May diving in Okinawa

Hello there,

Here are some pictures from our diving trips during the Golden Week.
From the last week of April to the first week of May, there is a long holidays in Japan, when we welcome the first big wave of divers from mainland Japan.

Unfortunately, Okinawa got into the raining season early this year, which started during the golden week – but all in all, the condition was good, we were able to dive various dive sites with our boats, Swift and B-Flap.

Some dives were at dynamic underwater landscapes…. with some drift dives.

We had a few days going out with ‘Premier Cruise Plan’ with our catamaran boat, B-Flap.
Matt had his 100th dive this time!! Congratulation Matt, and thank you very much for visiting us every year!

We saw sea turtles, lots of Nudibranch …..

Many fish and Many smiles!

Our Bluefield staff are all happy that we had pleasant and safe diving throughout busy Golden Week!

Frogfish at Dragon Lady – Diving Kerama Islands

Hello everyone,

Today’s picture is a tiny black frogfish who lives in Dragon Lady for a while.

They camouflage themselves into sea sponges. From far, they just look like a part of sea sponges. You need very good eyes to find them!

Macro Dives in the Kerama Islands – Okinawa Diving

Hello there,

Today we enjoyed macro dives at Kerama Islands.
It was a nice sunny day- very warm, I thought I could just stay underwater at Kuroshima forever.

2. Turtle Reef (Gishippu Island)

One big surprising thing happened today -
There was a baby earthquake while we were enjoying the second dive of the day.
Earthquake Data:
12:39 (April 14, 2011)
The  epicenter – North of Zamami Island (Kerama Islands)
Magnitude 3.7
Seismic intensity 1

It was a very small earthquake, but we heard the big sound in the water, which was followed by a long vibration. I thought that the compressor on our boat exploded for some reason, or our boat ran aground, or a war started in the Kerama Islands.
Luckily no damage, no body was hurt, and the quake was so small.
But it should be the once in the lifetime thing – it was scary but at the same time amazing to feel the power of the earth.

Whip Coral Shrimp – Okinawa Diving

Hello there,

I got a very good shot of a whip coral shrimp the other day.
They are so small and camouflage very well to the color pattern of their host whip coral.
